Getting Settled in Puebla

Exciting News!

The Lord has added a new member to our family! We are expecting the arrival of baby Collins in early 2019. Please pray with us for health for Sarah and the baby during the pregnancy. Please pray also for God’s provision for the physical and financial needs we will have as we anticipate the birth of our child. We are very thankful for this precious gift from God!

Preparing for Greek Exegesis

Chris has been spending a lot of time the last few weeks studying Greek and preparing for his Greek Exegesis class this fall at Puebla Bible Seminary. One of the assignments for the students is to translate John chapters 1-4, so he has been working on translating that passage. In addition, there are multiple textbooks to read through (in Spanish!), so there is still a lot of preparation to do.

Spanish Tutoring

One of the main things we’ve been working on the last few weeks is improving our Spanish. Though we are both fluent, there is still much more for us to learn and improve our grammar. We have a tutor, Silvia, who comes to our house 4 days a week for a two-hour Spanish class. We have really enjoyed our classes, and we have learned so much! We are also praying for an opportunity to share Jesus with Silvia. She is a Jehovah’s Witness and seems to know the Bible, but we are praying that God will help us know how to share the truth with her.

Friends

We are also very thankful for the friends God has already provided for us here. We have really enjoyed our fellowship with both Mexican believers and also other missionaries here. We were recently invited to join a Bible study with some other younger couples, and we’re very thankful for this opportunity. God has been so good to provide us with community so soon after arriving.

Pray for Us!

  • Pray for health for Sarah and baby Collins.
  • Pray for opportunities to share Christ with our Spanish tutor Silvia as well as with neighbors here.
  • Pray for wisdom as we seek opportunities to minister in orphan care
  • Pray for Mexico's elections on Sunday, July 1
  • Pray that we would continue to walk closely with God.

Thank you!

Your fellow servants,
Chris and Sarah Collins

  1. Wonderful news about baby Collins coming soon, she or he will be a lucky child to have picked you for their parents. Sounds like God has you where He wants you and you will do what is right as you follow his will. Question, Are there Bibles written in Spanish?

Collins Family Update: March 2022

Changing Ministry Location Many of you already know that we are planning to move back to the States in the near future. We have shared with many of you the reasons for this change, but if anyone has questions or concerns about this decision, please feel free to reach out to us. We are planning to arrive back in the States in mid-April, and we hope to see many of you then. We are currently pursuing an opportunity to serve in pastoral ministry in the northern Michigan area, and we are waiting for an answer from the church. While we patiently wait for God’s leading in our ministry change, we are continuing to serve in our ministries in Mexico, and we will continue serving via online ministry once we are back in the States. We expect to need missions support at least through the end of May, and perhaps longer depending on how God leads us in the next two months. We will do our best to keep in touch with our supporters as we learn how God is leading our family and ministry. We would ask ...

December 2021 Newsletter

Puebla Bible Seminary The semester is over and most of the students are back with their families and serving with their home churches over Christmas break. This semester I had 29 students between the three courses I taught, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to teach them the Scriptures and the biblical languages. Group photo of this year's seminary students At the end of the semester, we had a time of food and fellowship with each class, and it was meaningful to hear all that the students had learned throughout the semester and how they’ve grown in their relationship with God and knowledge of His Word. We ended the semester with a fellowship of all the students and staff around a campfire, with games, singing, testimonies, and carne asada. I especially enjoyed hearing the testimonies of the students and what God has done in their lives. Collins Family Update June 2022

Dear praying friends, The last few months have been turbulent for our family to say the least, as we have navigated a major life and ministry change. Thank you to all who have been praying for us! It has been so encouraging to have so many people reach out and remind us that they’re praying. We want to give you an update and ask for your continued prayers. My parents flew down to Puebla in early April to help us with our move back to the States. They were such a blessing to us as we worked through all the details of leaving Mexico, including packing our suitcases, holding a sale, and getting rid of all of our things there. We came back with just our suitcases full of mostly books and clothes, and we’ve been living out of suitcases for the last two and a half months. We were so encouraged and blessed by a generous offering from one of our supporting churches, Suber Road Baptist Church, which will help us a good bit with getting furniture and other necessities when we get our own pla...
