Getting Settled in Puebla

Exciting News!

The Lord has added a new member to our family! We are expecting the arrival of baby Collins in early 2019. Please pray with us for health for Sarah and the baby during the pregnancy. Please pray also for God’s provision for the physical and financial needs we will have as we anticipate the birth of our child. We are very thankful for this precious gift from God!

Preparing for Greek Exegesis

Chris has been spending a lot of time the last few weeks studying Greek and preparing for his Greek Exegesis class this fall at Puebla Bible Seminary. One of the assignments for the students is to translate John chapters 1-4, so he has been working on translating that passage. In addition, there are multiple textbooks to read through (in Spanish!), so there is still a lot of preparation to do.



Spanish Tutoring

One of the main things we’ve been working on the last few weeks is improving our Spanish. Though we are both fluent, there is still much more for us to learn and improve our grammar. We have a tutor, Silvia, who comes to our house 4 days a week for a two-hour Spanish class. We have really enjoyed our classes, and we have learned so much! We are also praying for an opportunity to share Jesus with Silvia. She is a Jehovah’s Witness and seems to know the Bible, but we are praying that God will help us know how to share the truth with her.

Friends

We are also very thankful for the friends God has already provided for us here. We have really enjoyed our fellowship with both Mexican believers and also other missionaries here. We were recently invited to join a Bible study with some other younger couples, and we’re very thankful for this opportunity. God has been so good to provide us with community so soon after arriving.

Pray for Us!

  • Pray for opportunities to share Christ with our Spanish tutor Silvia as well as with neighbors here.
  • Pray for wisdom as we seek opportunities to minister in orphan care
  • Pray for Mexico's elections on Sunday, July 1
  • Pray that we would continue to walk closely with God.

    Wonderful news about baby Collins coming soon, she or he will be a lucky child to have picked you for their parents. Sounds like God has you where He wants you and you will do what is right as you follow his will. Question, Are there Bibles written in Spanish?

First Month in Mexico

When we arrived in Mexico in late April, we hit the ground running. Two days after arriving, God led us to our house. The house is only an 8-minute walk to Puebla Bible Seminary, and very close to some other missionary families. Our second weekend here was our missionary team’s annual retreat, and we spent the weekend at Veracruz. We enjoyed getting to know our teammates some during that time, and we had the opportunity to share our story and how God brought us to Mexico. It was a sweet time of fellowship. Over the last month we have visited 4 churches in Puebla. We are still looking for the place where God would have us join and minister, and we’re praying for God to direct us in this decision. Same Mission, New Agency

A NEW AGENCY After months of prayer and consideration, along with counsel from pastors and other friends and family, we want to inform you of a big and exciting change for us! In an effort to be the best stewards of the resources God has provided through our supporters, we are resigning from our current mission board, Avant, and we are transitioning to a new agency, Mission Quest ( https://missionquest.org ). WHAT IS CHANGING? This change does not affect our ministries here in Mexico. We plan to continue in the same ministry as before: Making disciples of Jesus Christ in Puebla, Mexico through orphan care, theological education, and church ministries . This is also not a change in doctrine . Our beliefs have not changed! Mexico, Here We Come!

Tomorrow morning, while you will probably still be sleeping, we will begin our journey to Mexico. Our first flight is scheduled just before 5:30 AM, and we will be traveling all day with two connecting flights before we get to Puebla, Mexico tomorrow evening. We found out today that the airline we are flying with (Delta) had a major glitch in their system a couple days ago with hundreds of flights canceled, and so we are hoping and praying that our flights will not be canceled or delayed tomorrow. Please pray with us for safe and timely travel and connections tomorrow, and for patience and wisdom should we have to deal with canceled or delayed flights. Please pray for our different opportunities while we are in Mexico. We will have opportunities to meet many missionaries and other contacts in the Puebla area.
