Children’s Homes

Each week we visit the children’s homes and share devotionals with the kids, Sarah teaches the girls how to make desserts and other fun foods, and we enjoy spending time with them and having fun together. Sarah is also personally discipling one of the girls named Laura. 

Another way we support the children is by going to their soccer games. Many of the children are involved in a private Christian soccer league, and they invite us to their games. We enjoy going and cheering them on, and it’s an enjoyable way to show our love and support for them. 

Please pray with us for these two homes, for each of the children, and for the house parents: Maycol and Rosario (boys’ home) and Marco and Nayeli (girls’ home).

Preaching and Teaching

We are continuing our Sunday sermon series in the Gospel of John. I had the privilege to preach chapter 9 (Jesus heals a man born blind) over the course of two weeks. In our Sunday school, we are covering Christian Beliefs by Wayne Grudem on the basic doctrines of the Christian faith. In the last couple months, I’ve taught on some of the doctrines of salvation, including election, conversion, sanctification and perseverance. Our church has grown some in numbers over the past few months, and it’s exciting to see the people grow in spiritual depth as well.

Music Ministry

It is also exciting to see the growth in our music ministry. As the church grows, more are getting involved in the music, including two seminary students Alfredo and Daniela. We’ve started having music practices on Saturdays, and it’s a good time of fellowship and preparation for corporate worship. 

Discipleship

Group discipleship

A new opportunity we’ve started this year is a group discipleship. Pastor Miguel and I divided up the church into two groups of four or five families, and we’re leading them through the discipleship curriculum by the Navigators. We are encouraged by the growth we see in people’s lives.

Alfredo and Liz

We began discipling Alfredo and Liz around October last year, and we have seen great growth in their lives and their marriage. Liz, as far as we know, has not yet become a believer, but she seems very close. Please pray with us for her conversion, and for their continued growth.

Puebla Bible Seminary

Greek II Class

Classes at Puebla Bible Seminary began mid-January, and we’re getting close to the halfway point of the semester. This semester I’m teaching Greek II. Please pray for the students to have good understanding of the material and that they would put forth the necessary effort to learn.

Mentoring

Another opportunity we have at the seminary is in the mentoring program, which is like being a ministry supervisor to students. I’m supervising three students: Alfredo, Benjamin, and Caleb, and Sarah is supervising Daniela. It is encouraging to us to see growth in their lives and ministries.

Pray for us

Please continue to pray for us as we continue serving here in Puebla, Mexico in these various ministries.
Pray that we would be faithful and walk closely with God so He can work through us.

First Month in Mexico

When we arrived in Mexico in late April, we hit the ground running. Two days after arriving, God led us to our house. The house is only an 8-minute walk to Puebla Bible Seminary, and very close to some other missionary families. Our second weekend here was our missionary team’s annual retreat, and we spent the weekend at Veracruz. We enjoyed getting to know our teammates some during that time, and we had the opportunity to share our story and how God brought us to Mexico. It was a sweet time of fellowship. Over the last month we have visited 4 churches in Puebla. We are still looking for the place where God would have us join and minister, and we’re praying for God to direct us in this decision. Already during our time here, God has begun to provide some friendships for us. We’ve enjoyed getting to know some of the other missionaries here in Puebla, as well as some Mexican believers. Getting Settled in Puebla

Exciting News! The Lord has added a new member to our family! We are expecting the arrival of baby Collins in early 2019. Please pray with us for health for Sarah and the baby during the pregnancy. Please pray also for God’s provision for the physical and financial needs we will have as we anticipate the birth of our child. We are very thankful for this precious gift from God! Preparing for Greek Exegesis Chris has been spending a lot of time the last few weeks studying Greek and preparing for his Greek Exegesis class this fall at Puebla Bible Seminary. One of the assignments for the students is to translate John chapters 1-4, so he has been working on translating that passage. In addition, there are multiple textbooks to read through (in Spanish!), so there is still a lot of preparation to do . Spring 2021 Ministry Update

Children’s homes Boys’ home With the boys’ home, we´ve had opportunities to share devotionals, play soccer with them at the seminary, and make pizzas together. One of the older boys, Emilio, celebrated his birthday earlier this month, and we were invited to join them for a birthday party!   Girls’ home At the girls’ home we’ve continued visiting every Friday night. I share a devotional with the girls about the attributes of God, and Sarah teaches them how to make desserts and other foods. A couple of the girls also had birthday parties recently, and we were invited to celebrate with them! One of the girls, Laura, asked Sarah to do a regular personal Bible study with her, and Sarah has invited her to come over to our home for lunch and a Bible study on Thursdays. She has been very receptive and asks really good questions. Several new girls arrived a couple months ago from another children’s home in Mexico, so there are now 14 girls.
