November News

Children’s Homes

We’ve had a lot of great opportunities to serve at the children’s homes over the last few months. We praise the Lord for good relationships we’ve developed with both house parents and the children, and for many opportunities to speak into their lives.

At the girls’ home Chris has given weekly devotionals and started piano lessons with 3 of the girls. Sarah has taught the girls how to make several delicious desserts, and she recently started discipling one of the older girls, Laura. Leslie, one of the younger girls, has also shown great interest in the devotionals and often wants to read the Bible with us for a while longer after the devotional time!

At the boys’ home Chris has also given some devotionals, and Sarah has helped many of the younger boys with homework and is even teaching English to the house mom, Rosario.

With both of the homes, we’ve gone to some of their soccer games, participated in birthday parties for many of the kids (Sarah even makes lots of the cakes!), and we’ve had them to our home for meals and games.

We’re very thankful for the many opportunities to show love to these dear children and to speak God’s truth into their lives.

Seminary

The fall semester at Puebla Bible Seminary has come to a close. This semester I taught 2 classes, Greek 1 and Pentateuch & Historical Books. I’m thankful for the opportunity to teach and invest in the lives of these students who are the future pastors and leaders of the church in Mexico.

Church

We love our small church, Iglesia Bíblica Bautista Ágape. We are grateful to serve alongside our young pastor and his wife, Miguel and Génesis. We have enjoyed serving regularly in music ministry, and Chris has had many opportunities to teach and preach as we study through the book of John and basic doctrines of the Christian faith. The members are very eager to learn more from God´s Word, and we´re thankful for the growth God is producing in their lives.

Discipleship

One of our greatest opportunities in the last couple months has been a discipleship we started with a younger couple, Alfredo and Liz. Alfredo is a student at the seminary, and they are in our church as well. Alfredo grew up as an orphan in the Niños de México organization, and though he is a believer, he is young in his faith and very hungry to learn more. Liz does not appear to be a believer, and so we are praying for her salvation. The book we are working through with them is John Piper’s This Momentary Marriage (in Spanish of course). The book is very heavy on the gospel, so we are thankful that Liz is hearing the gospel through this study as well as our study through the book of John at church. Please pray with us for her salvation as well as Alfredo’s growth in his faith.

Family

Mikey is continuing to grow very quickly. We are trying to enjoy the moments before they fly by. Isn't he cute!

Sarah does a lot of behind-the-scenes ministry, including lots of cooking and baking, cleaning, and keeping Mikey and me alive! We are so thankful for her ministry to us and to others as well!

Thank you so much for your prayers and support for us all! Happy Thanksgiving!

Collins Family Update: March 2022

Changing Ministry Location Many of you already know that we are planning to move back to the States in the near future. We have shared with many of you the reasons for this change, but if anyone has questions or concerns about this decision, please feel free to reach out to us. We are planning to arrive back in the States in mid-April, and we hope to see many of you then. We are currently pursuing an opportunity to serve in pastoral ministry in the northern Michigan area, and we are waiting for an answer from the church. While we patiently wait for God’s leading in our ministry change, we are continuing to serve in our ministries in Mexico, and we will continue serving via online ministry once we are back in the States. We expect to need missions support at least through the end of May, and perhaps longer depending on how God leads us in the next two months. We will do our best to keep in touch with our supporters as we learn how God is leading our family and ministry. We would ask ...

Same Mission, New Agency

A NEW AGENCY After months of prayer and consideration, along with counsel from pastors and other friends and family, we want to inform you of a big and exciting change for us! In an effort to be the best stewards of the resources God has provided through our supporters, we are resigning from our current mission board, Avant, and we are transitioning to a new agency, Mission Quest ( https://missionquest.org ). WHAT IS CHANGING? This change does not affect our ministries here in Mexico. We plan to continue in the same ministry as before: Making disciples of Jesus Christ in Puebla, Mexico through orphan care, theological education, and church ministries . This is also not a change in doctrine . Our beliefs have not changed! You can check out Mission Quest’s doctrinal statement here: https://missionquest.org/about/Missionary-Statement-of-Faith/ WHY CHANGE? For us, this change is about stewardship . For our family to continue with Avant would not be good stewardship of th...

Collins Family Update May 2020

ANSWER TO PRAYER: LIZ BECAME A BELIEVER! If you’ve seen our recent newsletters, you may remember that we have been discipling a younger couple who live at the seminary and go to our church. Alfredo grew up in Niños de México (the organization we work with at the children’s homes). He has a hunger for God’s Word and is really enjoying his studies at the seminary. His wife Liz , however, was not a believer, but she agreed to move with him to Puebla so he could study at the seminary. Soon after they arrived, we invited them to come to church with us, and we began discipling them. We knew from the beginning that Liz was not a believer, and so we have been praying for her and consistently presenting the truths of the gospel to her. The Bible study we are doing with them about marriage is extremely gospel-focused, and Liz has been receptive to the teaching now for a few months. And so we knew she was close to trusting Christ. And then on Tuesday, April 28, Alfredo shared with us...
